Bulletin Board

Below is a bunch of cool stuff I've found online, including helpful resources, tools, and quality content.

Free and Useful Software

General Purpose

PowerToys

(link)

PowerToys is a really useful program for Windows that adds a bunch of small tools that you can access with simple keybinds, including: a color picker, a screen text extractor, a clone of MacOS's spotlight search, and a quick image resizer.

uBlock Origin

(link)

The BEST ad and content blocker. If you are not using this uninstall your old ad blocker and install this one. It's also open source so you can trust it to not harvest your data.

Video Recording

OBS

(link)

Super useful video recording and live streaming software. Everyone probably knows this one but maybe one or two people will find this helpful.

VDO.Ninja

(link)

A useful peer-to-peer video tool. Not sure what everyone uses it for but I use it to stream my phone camera to my PC so that I can use OBS's virtual camera to play Magic the Gathering remotely.

Free Music

Legal

Bandcamp

(link)

Haven't explored it too deep but some bands post free albums on here. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard has a "bootleg" account with free, high quality, mixed live shows to download, plus the entirety of Polygondwanaland.

Dubious Legality

Internet Archive

(link)

The Internet Archive has a pretty large collection of music, including a lot of live stuff from the Grateful Dead. Not sure how legal it all is but it has some good stuff that you can download or stream which you can't find on streaming services.

Quality YouTube Channels

Gaming

Ahoy/Xbox Ahoy

(link)

This guy makes incredibly well-made videos about game history and firearms.

History

Voices of the Past

(link)

British dude with a calming voice reads first-person accounts of Japanese people meeting Westerners centuries ago. And other topics. Very interesting channel.

Game Development Resources

VFX and Materials

ambientCG

(link)

Free CC0 Public Domain materials and models

sharetextures

(link)

Free CC0 Public Domain materials and models, similar to ambientCG.

Effect Texture Maker

(link)

Super useful tool for creating noise maps quickly without using other programs like Substance.

Unreal

PrismaticaDev on YouTube

(link)

This guy makes some of the best Unreal tutorials for Materials and VFX stuff, especially for newbies. His videos aren't just follow alongs, he actually teaches you the logic behind what is happening. Unfortunately this isn't a given with some other content creators.
